Around
The apartment is located in the Sablon district just behind the train station. Its location and history make it a district entirely at the service of the city of Metz. The very ancient history of this district goes back 2000 years. Its first Roman name was "Ad Arenas", which means "beyond the arena". Later on, this district was nicknamed "the district of the basilicas" because of the abundance of monasteries and churches that were found there.
In the 19th century, the district was a fertile plain for the cultivation of vegetables that came out of the ground, for the consumption of the soldiers. The construction of train stations and railroads transformed the face of this district, which was energized by the construction of large residential areas. This is how it lost its allure of market gardening plain.
Today, the Sablon is one of the symbols of the city of Metz, to which the district has been attached since 1914. A symbol, because of the important urban plan that is being developed on former railroad wastelands, and that everyone knows as the "Amphitheater district".
Above the ruins of one of the largest amphitheaters in the Roman world, with its 25,000 spectators, stands the Seille Park, the Arena sports and cultural complex, and above all, since a few months, the Centre Pompidou Metz.
